The end of peace - Elv'eng

Some times after the battle and the vanishing of Annoura I sat together with Dardan in the tavern to tell him, what she said, because he didn't hear everything. After a while the door opened and Dirk entered to tell us, that some people would gather at the former shrine of justice to head to the orc fort to have a look for Annoura there. The people, who wanted to go were some of our guards, a few citizens and also some orcs of the Severed Heads Clan, led by Saktoth, the Grand Wozza himself. When Dardan and I had arrived all had allready summoned in front of the former shrine and we were waiting, that someone would open a gate. Nothing happened for a few minutes and then suddenly Dirk, our Guard Lieutenant, suddenly yelled something like "The fiends!", followed by a call to arms and an attack on the orcs. Soon started a quick battle between the Deepwaterians and the orcs, which only lasted a few moments. All of the orcs lay severely hurt on the ground. After some few moments of confusion it was clear, Dirk had started the battle and thus broke the peace treaty. Dirk seemed more confused about all this then anyone else, and had no explaination for what happened.

In the meanwhile the orcs left for Nokhmar and soon we got the message, that the peace treaty is no longer valid. Still confused, what happened we returned to the Owl's Eye to look for a reason for all this. But Dirk still couldn't tell us a satisfying answer. He only said, that he was terrible angry about the orcs and that he is sure that it was right to do so. He has no explaination, where his anger came from. Julian Lunar, one of our local vampires, then tried to scan his mind, to see if he was under the influence of a spell, but couldn't find anything. Well I don't trust these vampires and so I don't give much about what he says. But the other guards and Dirk himself agreed to bring Dirk into the jail until Jearom had made a decission about this. Because it was getting late, I went to bed. I'm not sure, but when I was preparing for the night, I looked out of the window and saw an orc running into the woods. And as far as I can say I think it was noone else then Saktoth.

I still can't believe what happened, because Dirk is the last one I expected to break the peace. There must something very strange happened to him. Also I think this was a trick of the orcs, because there are some facts, which are really strange. Why have the orcs not aided us in the battle with swamp plants before? Why this meeting at the former shrine of justice? What was Saktoth seeking late in the night in Deepwater? Again lots of unanswered questions. It seems times get really tough.

Lady Annoura visits Deepwater - Elv'eng

Yesterday evening I waited together with a lot of people in the front of the Owl's Eye for the arrival of Rilla. I was curious to hear some news about Annoura, the woman, we had freed last week from her imprisonment by the infamous mage Darkhen. After her rescue she was to weak to tell us much about her fate and so we let her in care of Rilla.

When Rilla arrived I was in the tavern to prepare some meals and only saw her through the window. I headed outside, but I couldn't see her anymore. I asked the waiting people about her and was told she would be looking for Annoura to bring her to our town.

Some minutes later Annoura arrived and suddenly the crowd gathered around her. She seemed to be in a very bad condition, still the results of her captivity. She started to speak in a silent and slow voice. She told something about, she had to say to us. She said, the last tiem she had been in deepwater was, when Jacob was looking for the Druids staff. It was the time, when she was lost to Jacob and vice versa. Then his brother, Joshua used a powerful spell to transform her in an orc woman, called Darchess Malindragor. Later on Joshua gave her back her body, but her mind still thought she was an orc. She continued that, if Darchess will come back, we should be good to her. Darchess will not know about all this. Also we should not trust our senses and eyes, but our heart. Also she mentioned Darkhen would come for her. And that there is a prophecy, which says that he will rule. I suggest she means Darkhen. He will rule a kingdom of light and dark. Annoura told, that some people think this means the kingdom of Britanna, others the kingdom of the daed. Once she will be there she never can go back. Dead or alive. Also she said, the staff, he carries, will see to that. At this moment someone asked her about the whereabouts of Darkhen, but she only answered, Jacob should know this and told her about a strange and wild place that none had ever been to. Then she continued that "they" came for her and Rilla had took her away to the city of Wind. Then she seemed to be very uncomfortable and in that moment a vast number of ratmen and lizardmen appearde from nothing and started to attack.

I don't know if it was only bad furtune or soemthing else, but it seems the first wave of monsters were all heading for Dardan. What then followed was the largest battle, I ever had seen. It seemed hundreds of lizards and rats attacked the crowd, but one after the other was slain by our brave guards and all the other visitors. It was difficult the keep an overview about the situation and especially to keep an eye on Annoura. I lost her in the sea of fighting people and the last sign of her, was when she loudly cried: "Noooo!" Then the monsters seemed to be all slain and we tried to find Annoura. But she had dissapeared. No sign of her could be seen and we didn't got the time to search her, because the next attack begun. Again from nowhere strange swampy, moving plants appear and started to attack the people. Again it must have been hundreds of them. Soon the whole ground before the Owl's Eye was nothing else then a wet jungle of strange plants. But also again as before, all!

The brave women and men, which were present, were able to destroy all these foul things. Well, if I remeber right, then I have to say this is not completly true. There have been some people which were only visitors. While I was standing on the front stairs of the tavern and was firing my bow, I was able to see some orcs standing close to the forest and doing simply nothing.

When the battle was over, we were again left with a lot of questions. Where has Annoura left to? Is she again transformed into an orc? What is about this prophecy? Is Jacob still living? Where can we find Darkhen? These are only a few of the questions. I'm really worried about this and we have to try to get the answers as soon as possible.

Rilla visits Deepwater and seeks out the mystery in Cove. - Elv'eng

*dribbles* All I wanted was a drink! But no no, some gypsy wench turned up and started going on about some druid folk. And then the Elf started going on about Cove and some graveyard. And next think ye know old Long John is being chased by a group of angry pensioners at this Graveyard. Luckilly some landlubbers came and helped them on their way. And then we found a grave.... And everyone went very quiet.... And then the Gypsy wench started to go into some sort of trance...

Long John you are making no sense! Speak clearly man!

Bah! *grumbles* Well as I were saying lad, I came to the Tavern to buy some seaman's liquor, which I did acquire. When I came out, the Gypsy Wench called Rilla were standing around. Some landlubber's were telling her about a bunch of beasts that had been killed, that had collars on them identifying them as Darkhen's pets. Rilla seemed quite interested in this. And then Dianora (who makes fine ale) said "Well, there are rumors, that Darkhen was the one, who held Frabagor prisoner". Rilla was surprised by this and said that Fragabor she thought worked for Daregard. She then said that if we could give her the right questions then maybe her crystal ball might shed some light on this. And then people call me crazy for just wanting a drink and this wench is going around talking to her friggin crystal ball and they're all standing around like mesmerized sea serpents!

Please Long John stick to the story, you can tell me about the crazy land lubbers later on.

*grumbles and dribbles some more* Bah! So anyway I think the Elf then started speaking to her....

What Elf?

What Elf?!? What elf do ye think, that pesky green do gooder elf, pesky Elv'eng! So anyway this elf is telling her about Cove and some books and a graveyard. Now the gypsy wench Rilla is quite interested in all this and she suggests we go to the graveyard so she can see what her crystal ball tells her. Crazy I know, but all the land lubbers started following her to Cove... So we then get to this graveyard and there are loads of beasts and some pensioners (Long John has yet to understand the concept of a Lich, they are pensioners to him). Now all these *brave* landlubbers hang outside the fence throwing sticks at these beasts. It takes a brave seaman to lead the charge through the gates into the graveyard and then some of them finally followed me through. While all of this is going on, that gypsy wench calls upon one of her healer mateys to turn up and help the injured. I wanted her to bring an innkeeper, but no she brought a healer. Typical. So the landlubbers finally clear this graveyard and then we found the grave we were looking for. The grave read "In Loving Memory Of Joseph. The Joy He Gave Me Shall Remain In My Heart Forever. -Annoura-". Now the gypsy lass put her hands on the grave and looked like she were in a bit of pain and then she got up and said "The body that lies here.... has no kin..." she shivered a bit and then continued "or.. or does he? Something here is not right. This body.. has no spirit attached. But its spirit.. has been.. taken." Now I got rather excited when I heard her talking about Spirit, but one of the land lubber said she was talking about a soul's spirit or something and not liquor *grumbles*. So anyway the gypsy wench went on about the body's spirit "It is gone. It cannot tell me.. .who the body is of. The body that lies here.. I can tell you nothing of.. for its spirit is ..bound to another..and will not leave that other.. to return here.. or cannot.." Mythardin some old chap like myself with a beard longer than a sea serpent asked "Bound to whom? or what?" And she said "Only the spirit may tell me that." After a pause she continued "I hear only a whisper...It says.. where the rocks.. meet the sky...What .. does that mean I wonder?" So anyway then all the land lubbers started yammering about this place and that place and Rilla said the place they were looking for was east of the graveyards location and it is where the rocks meet the sky. She then said we should come to her house on Wednesday at 9pm GMT to continue the search.

Well that's quite a story there old sailor, thank you for telling it!

Thanks is all fine and dandy landlubber, but a bottle of ale would be even better!

I apologise for the windy nature of this report, but as ye might understand getting information out of a retired senile pirate like Long John Silver is tricky.

Peace Treaty with the Orcs - More Questions then Answers - Elv'eng

Yesterday, when I arrived in the Owl's Eye I found a short notice on the bar. The contence of it was: "I shall arrive on Sunday to get your answer. Delayed on friday. -Frabagor". I remembered the rumors about Frabagors intentions about a new relationship between humans and orcs and thought this was it, he wants to ask for.

A little later Dirk and Yoldran came to the tavern and we were talking about this. Yoldran told, that Spiritwood was also offered peace by Frabagor and that Pad O'Lion intended to accept this, even if he thinks, that there is something behind this. We also thought, that Frabagor was planning something, when a strange man in a green robe was entering the tavern. He held an odd looking green staff in his hand. He told us, that he was looking for a wyrms heart, which is the last reagent he needs for a magical experiment. After I had asked him, to tell a little more about the experiment, he only said, this would not be our concern. Because we didn't have what he was looking for (and even if, we didn't want to give it to him) he left the taven and told us, he will come back and ask again for the reagent.
After this some guards came to the tavern, interrupting their training at the fighting school. Also Alexandra showed up and I was talking to him, what to do, when Frabagor arrives. He mentioned as well, that we should accept this peace, but that we also should be wary, because the orcs may plan something. Also he didn't exactly know at which time they arrive, he went to Spiritwood. The guards also left together with Dirk to continue training and also Yoldran vanished.

So I was almost alone, except two guests, who I served in the tavern, when a moongate opened just a few steps in front of the tavern and some orcs and goblins came through it. I soon send a pigeon to Jearom and stepped out to welcome the new guests. I had no problems to identify Frabagor, who didn't want to waste time and asked immedietly for our answer. I told him, that we welcome peace with the orcs, but I stated clearly that anyone who enters the town, be he human or orc, have to live by our laws. Frababgor accepted this, but said, that we should have some patience with the "Lil'wuns", who seems to be the younger orcs, because they might be very curious. I answered him, that I will show patience to them, but in this case I can speak only for myself and especially if they are trying to steal something they will have problems, because this is against our laws. After he heared this he promised to tell this them. Finally we came to an agreement on the terms as I stated above here. Short after the start of the negotiations Alexandra and Yoldran haven been coming back and Alex also agreed to the terms of the treaty.

Frabagor and the orcs were after this heading to Spiritwood, to sign a treaty there too. We decided to go also there and look what happened there. When I arrived through a moongate I saw a large crowd of people in front of the Spiritwood tavern standing around Frabagor and Pad O'Lion. Unfortunatly I was too far away to hear, what they said.

When they had finished the orcs left and we were talking to Pad, what all this could mean. Allmost all were worried, because they thought Frabagor is planning something. Pad told us, that the orcs want their "lil'wuns" to study in Spiritwood. Then Kamar told, that the orcs had been seen together with the drows. Soon after this someone mentioned a mage called Darkhen Irae, who seems to be the one who is travelling from town to town and looking for a wyrms heart. Because of his green staff, we think that he will be noone else but Joshua, the brother of Jacob the druid. Also Pad suggested, that he was the one, who held Frabagor prisoner and that there might be a connection between them. The conversation turned to the point, that the orcs would maybe looking for the one part of the silver druid staff, when some strange red monsters appeared and attacked the crowds. The battle was short, because there have been a lot of people and as far as I have seen, noone was severly injured by them. It seemed that these creatures were summond by Darkhen, because they called themself "Darkhens pets".

Short before the end of the battle Hamilton MaCoy, a brave man of the Custodes Fati, appeared and was telling some bad news: "Well I followed The orcs throught the gate which led ter there tower. After a while of breaking in and bein' kicked out, I managed to sneak in without detection. By this time the conversation was drwain' ter a close, but I heard Fraagor talk. He said sumit about ttyin' ter get us to break the treaty. At this time other people tried ter get in and me cover was blown." We pondered a while why Frabagors wants us to break the treaty, but we didn't find a conclussion. Elv'eng mentioned that in this case we should try to make them break the treaty and because of this Pad suggested to carry lots of drinks and shinies, because the goblins may not resist such a temptation.
Time didn't stand still during all these events and I as well as most others became tired. So we headed back to Deepwater and went to sleep.

A long eventful evening finished and it seems there more unanswered questions then before. We'll be careful, what the next days will bring.

BNN: Al’Cedra’s Challenge - Trammel for Lovers - Elv'eng

I found this on the uo.com BNN pages:

Al’Cedra’s Challenge - Trammel for Lovers
Bethsainda Ariaachas Jan 18 2001 6:43PM

Well, dear readers, here is one for the books! In honor of her own mate, Al’Cedra has chosen to make the February 1st competition for couples only! It is open to all citizens of Britannia, and it will certainly try your wits, your wiles, and your patience. Al’Cedra will tell the story of her own love and in it will be the path that you need to follow to arrive at the lair. It will be full of twists and turns and puzzles, you may be sure. You must compete as a couple, and consult with each other each step of the way.

For new readers, the Trammel Dragon appears at the first of every month, and poses riddles to all citizens of Britannia who have proved themselves worthy through prior tests and trials. Any couple can compete this month, but they must register for the competition at the Court in Yew at the appropriate time. At the end of the quest, the couple that wins will be awarded engraved rings that read “Master of the Word and of my Heart” and “Mistress of the Word and of my Heart”.

The story that Al’Cedra told to me begins:

“And upon the earth came the winds of fate, and they took me over the land. Many were the dragons, many were the sons of man who had come to seek their dreams. In them I could see, as I reached the city of stone, whose fall was to be twice, that the humans were many, and that they bonded to each other, one to one, and that in their hearts was something special. Yet my heart was empty as the stone of the city…"

The rest of the story, dear reader, you will have to find out for yourself! Good luck!

If you would like to take part in Al'Cedra's Challenge, please come to Official Sign Up at the Court in Yew on Sunday, January 28th between the hours of 8:00 and 11:00. Good luck!

The story about Jacob the druid and Lady Annoura - Elv'eng

Yesterday evening, as promised, Sardisha Li'Sant, the gypsie we rescued from the grasp of the Severed Head Orcs, came to the Spiritwood Tavern to tell a story. In fear of the orcs she came in disguise although she was easily identified by her speech and the gypsish look of hers. After the Tavern had filled she stepped forth and started her story:

"This here story I heared from a nice lady in white.. When I were jist a young'un. Once they was two brothers.. who loved each other more'n any other. One were named Jacob, 'n one were named Joshua. They was ne'er wi'out each other.. so when one decided ta' become a priest. A druid.. the other followed'im though his heart were not in it. One were consumed by his studies, but the other one... his thoughts was elsewhere. They was two brothers, Jacob and Joshua what went to be druids together Jacob.. his mind were on his studies.. but Joshua.. found his mind on a serving girl in the tavern. Her name were Annoura. Leastways I thinks so.. they called her annie. Well.. Joshua were doin' right well with the lass til she saw Jacob. They done fell in love like two lead ingots bein' smelted. Eventually the brother found out.. 'n they was a fight. Joshua cursed god.. 'n all things good.. 'n of the forest 'n said that he'd ha'e his revenge. >From that day for'ard, they dinnae see himi for many years. Then one night.. Joshua come to his brother 'n asked his aid. it were for some secret project. One that were for the ears 'o none, Joshua said. 'N because Jacob felt guilty bout Annoura 'n all.. he went with him. When he returned, he swore he would Ne'er have anything to do again with his brother. The next day his love, Annie, had disappeared. He ne'er found that out. Years later, they was another story, but she would na' tell that part. It were about a magic stick.. or somethin. But then... Joshua came agin.'N said he would gi'e back Annoura... but fer a price. Jacob would ha' to aid him in his work. Jacob agreed, and went from the small town he lived in with Annoura Ever day he went.. for weeks.. 'n then one day he come home.. 'n he were as if his heart was broke. Annie tried 'n tried, but she could na'e find out what happened.'N here be the sad part. He could na'e choose between losin' his love 'n what was right So's he chose the only path he could.. he choose death.

They is a rumor that his grave be somewheres in Britannia.. near her home. But I has ne'er found it. He took whate'er secret was.. ta the grave with 'im."

Quite touched by her story Elv'eng of Deepwater and myself related to Sardisha what we know of Jacob and Annoura, and about what happened about a year ago when they first where seen in our lands. Apparently Sardisha did nay know this to be a true story and realizing the real tragic of this story tears started to appear in her eyes. Before she vanished into a gate she said: "Ye take care.. 'n tell Rilla I be safe. Oh.. 'n somethin' is interferin' with Maia's powers. Now there be a mystery too."

Knowing Sardisha's story to be true a few people set out to find some clues about Jacob, Annoura and Joshua. First we travelled to the Yew area, as this was the place where Annoura was seen last, and knowing of a ruined building there we thought this might be the right approach. We searched the countryside around the heart shaped clearing south of Yew without finding anything though. Recalling what Sardisha had told us, about the small town where they lived, we thought to start searching the towns of Britannia, starting with the smallest ... Cove.

Upon arriving in Cove we spread in order to search the town fer clues. Inside a small hut, under a bed we found an old book, called Words of which contained the following: He was the hour, and I was but his moment lost in the simple joy of living. We had little time to share great love. He was the star that did not know how to be dull, the flower that closed before it's night. For me, the flower lost. For the, the dagger fall. For me, the tempest tossed. For me, the end of all. And the answer is still a question... Does one have the courage of life, or the courage of death? Can I live without joy in place where tears fall from heaven upon only his bones? I shall journey far to the east...and see some comfort in a place where rock meets sky, and the birds gather. And if there is no comfort in the morning's light, I will seek my love... for the last time. - A.

While we still thought about what we found, Martin apparently had stumbled across something interesting at the northern watchtower of Cove. Under a blood stained chainmail tunic we discovered a scroll, a very old piece of parchment: "And in the mists, Darkhen he cayme, to rule the laynd and mayke his fame" it read. In one corned of the upper room we discovered another book, a book nearly rotten and hard to read as most of the pages had been torn away and blood stained. Only the last pages could be read: "...and the chemical formulae was s.. sful... None of the ... say that I .......... and Jacob must be ........... or I will have to ....... and that will be dangerous. No man should ... He says I have changed, but per ..... true self .... at last. Even my name is ... and I will change .... what ... and it ..... D...... Even Ann.....". The rest of the book seems to be clawed away with only a few letter remaining readable: "t...........r.............de.............moun........ re....". Of course these new findings arose new questions and new riddles to be solved, but we set aside our thoughts fer then to set off fer the Cove graveyard where we hoped to find Jacob's grave.

Upon arriving at the graveyard we got attacked by all kinds of undead creatures, which stumbled from the undergrowth or dug themselves out of their graves. In the midst though, there was I creature I've never seen before. A red colored tentacle beast, lashing and whipping at us with a fury never seen before. It took a many warriors and mighty spells to take it down, but in the end it lay slain before us, revealing a tattered treasure map.

We then started to clean the olden tombstones, seeking for a clue to Jacob's last resting place, until we finally found it. An old grave with an inscription, reading: "In loving memory of Jacob. The joy he gave me shall remain in my heart forever."

What did really happen to Jacob and Annoura, or rather when?
Is Jacob really dead? Where did Annoura go? A place to the east, where the rock meets the sky and the birds gather? What happened to Joshua? How is he connected to Darkhen? Is he Darkhen? What are his goals?

Questions over questions, mysteries to be solved and without doubt evil to be vanquished. Hold open yer eyes and watch out for Annoura or mayhaps Jacob. Ye might cross their path.

The Virtues with ye all,

Pad O'Lion
Imperator Superior
Custodes Fati
Town of Spiritwood

Courant and Traveller merge toghter. - Elv'eng

Hello.

No the Courant isn't dead. We have just worked towards a better idea, at least thats what me and Videric think. Instead of posting the same news on two sites, we're now just posting on one.

There was of course other reasons we did this, one was that Courant didnt receive as much news as it can get, nor did the "Britannian Today" get. Also its about traffic, Tales of a Travller main page gets about 7x more visitors than the Courant, so hopefully with this idea we'll be able to get more people to see the Traveller/Courant pages, and hopefully send in more news to us.

Myself (Elv'eng) is still the "leader" of the Courant site, while Videric is the "leader" of Tales of the Traveller. So not much have changed there.

So, welcome to the new Courant pages, witch can be located at http://traveller.lemming.org

Expedition to Ice Dungeon - Videric

This week the Trade Caravan will be adventuring deep under the surface of the ground, to the icy pits of the Ice dungeon. We have two goals, first of all we need to reach the library within, for it holds few interesting books that we are interested in. Secondly, we need to slay a dragon or wyrm for it has come to our attention that a mystical person, who had appeared just before the Caravan had arrived to Mistweir, was a looking for Dragon scales. So if big enough group arrives, we shall indeed be able to slay one of those fieresome beasts and bring back some scales.

We shall be leaving on Tuesday the 16th at 21.00 (CET) from the Trade Caravan of Cove Fortress, you may look up the exact coordinates of our build from the map section at our tome (http://caravan.lemming.org/).

I hope I see thou there,
Videric Gaveston

Caravan to Delucia - Videric
