Chapter I: A missing child

The evening twilight was coming to a close and the sun was sinking in the East. Alexandra had just finished off a few rounds of beer at Ryndir's tavern, the Ancient Shipwreck. He had spent most of the day concerned in thought about his sister. Where was she, and what was she up to? When he had entered the Tavern earlier, he had asked Ryndir if he had seen her, since sometimes she took to pestering the sailor about muffins in his tavern, but Ryndir said he had not seen her for some time.

He had last seen Tara some two weeks ago, when he and Long John departed from the shore and waved at her as they left. She had promised to behave and keep both the house and Burrator tidy whilst they were away. Alexandra had returned only that morning with the ancient mariner he had set sail with. To his surprise he had found the house clean, but it also looked unlived in. Tara's bed did not look as though anyone had slept in it for some time. He was vaguely concerned by this, but Tara had been involved in her own little 'schemes' before and they had mostly been harmless.

Suddenly he realised Ryndir was standing over him, tapping his foot impatiently, the sailor gruffly announced that it was, "Time to drink up!". It was also time to head home and see if Tara, his little sister, had turned up at all. He paid Ryndir, who counted the gold immediately.

Alexandra's house was placed in a location that any self respecting man would appreciate, right next to the Tavern. As he calmly walked home, the fresh evening wind made his cloak dance. He opened his cabin door and lit the oil lantern on the wall. Despite his hopes that she would be, Tara was not at home.

Alexandra had one last look around the house, before going to search for her around Deepwater. It was then that he discovered an odd looking note that had most likely been put under door. He picked up the message and read it.

It said: "Humble greetings to thee.... I understand ye look after a girl called Tara. Look nay more for she be with one who cares, that she be. Ye may think she is missing, but she is not. Look no more. This not be thy concern anymore.

Tara's guardian."

Alexandra felt anger towards the writer and fear for Tara's sake at the same time. Who could have done this? Who would kidnap a young girl and leave a note like this, there was no ransom demand, nothing. He considered tearing the message up, but his senses prevailed at the last moment and instead he inspected the message carefully. The ink was similar to that which he often used, and the berries used to make the ink grew commonly in the Deep Forest, the forest of Yew. At least he had one clue about the kidnappers possible location.

Setting off immediately Alexandra decided to look around in the forests around the town. He encountered some of the beasts which plague the wooded areas nearby, but he saw nothing that would help him find his sister. He encountered Fauna in the forests, she was busy chopping wood, but they had a brief chat. She was quite surprised to hear about Tara, but promised she would keep a look out for him, and would let him know if she saw anything.

Alexandra continued searching, as he searched he grew more and more anxious. He dearly hoped she was alright, but something told him she was not...
