The cold had just set in, the once blue skies had now greyed over for winter. A thick fog had gathered over Yew forest and
with keen hearing you could just hear the peeling of the Abbeys bells striking midnight in the distance, you could hear the
yawning of the shadow creatures of sosaria waking for the night. Without, a cold and dingy world, within…safety. Suddenly
the scene is broke, 2 shadowy figures burst through the undergrowth pursued by 3 of the foulest creatures that roam the
land. Franticly they scrabble to keep on their feet, their destination, a small friends house on the outskirts of the wood.
Their legs ache and the little bundle they carry between seemingly grows heavier with every step. Within sight now of their
sanctuary they begin screaming for help. The lights are lit and the door is flung open, they fling themselves through the
door and collapse exhausted in a heap. Before the door could be closed a boney looking finger clasped itself around the
door handle and the wooden frame came crashing to the ground. The stench of rotting flesh reached the nostrils of the
terrified cowering people, it could only be one thing, lich lords! With motherly instincts the females snatched there babes
with only seconds left to spare they uttered the words ‘An Lor Xen’, an ancient invisibility spell and the 2 babes were
banished from view.
The next morn the fog had cleared and 3 hooded monks from Empath Abbey were rummaging in Yew wood for magical
ingredients called Reagents. They happened across a small house with its doors strewn across the forest floor. Cautiously
the monks approached fearing their lives. Inside was the most terrible sight to behold, 4 human carcasses lay rotting in a
festering pile. Sickened they turned to leave but were stopped by a small wailing coming from the back of the room. They
could see nothing, but upon the mage monk casting reveal spell they were amazed to see 2 small children lying helplessly
in a cradle. Solemnly they gathered the 2 babes in their arms and returned with them to the monastery.
The 2 children were raised by the monks being taught to read and write at a very early age. Although curious about their
maternal parents the monks swore not to tell the children about the true fate of their mothers and fathers. Sethius was by
far the stronger of the 2 juveniles and was taught in the skill of parrying and mace fighting by Brother Cadriac, a
grandmaster healer and fighter and by the age of 17 he could nearly beat his trainer in combat. Adriana, however showed
more interest in the intellectual arts being taught the mystical skill of inscription and alchemy. She learned the magical
potential of all the reagents and plants found on the floor of Britannia. She was given expert training from the monks and by
the age of 15 she could inscribe some of the most powerful words of Sosaria onto paper, binding their magical potential in it
until the words were again spoken unleashing their mystical powers. She could grind the toughest reagents into potent
liquid potions capable of almost anything
Since arriving at the abbey the two had formed a unique bonding. They hunted and sparred together. A favourite hunting
spot was Yew crypts where they were taught lock picking by a local thief who had befriended them. They became almost
like brother and sister. Although content with these fun ventures in the near by forests there was still a part of them both
which craved greater danger. For weeks their minds were filled with thoughts of adventure but due to a lack of knowledge of
the outside world these dreams remained just that…dreams. This was, until one day when they heard the town crier speak
of a great beast and it’s treasure, which had taken lair in a minor’s cave due east of Skara-Brae. This was their chance,
their call in life. Knowing the monks of the Abbey would not allow them to go on this adventure, they began to plot to
escape one night with provisions and embark on this great quest and return laden with more gold that Lord British himself
owns. For weeks they searched and traded for the goods that they needed. From Yew Crypts they managed to collect
nearly 5000 gold pieces, from the graveyard they collected a further 300gp and a full set of bone armour that Sethius would
clad himself in. From the money he had gained he bought a massive Katana that was enchanted with 24 spells of fireball, a
large wooden shield and hundreds of life saving bandages. Adriana secretly put aside extra regents from the abbey and at
night or when the abbey was empty she would turn these outwardly useless objects into powerful scrolls and potions she
would need on this grave quest.
On the night of the full moon as the monks were locking up the abbey doors they failed to notice Sethius and Adriana
creeping down to the kitchen and whispering the words ‘An Lor Xen’. After doing their final check of the premises the group
of monks finally retired to bed. With excited haste the 2 adventures headed towards the back door of the kitchen. Using his
knowledge of lockpicking Sethius expertly worked on the lock until they heard the wondrous click they were listening for,
they both sighed with relief as the door swung open revealing the dark woodlands of beyond.
After running south a fair while they stopped to make camp for the night. Adriana who had learned the basics of map
reading plotted a route for the pair to follow the next morn. Waking on the break of dawn to the sound of a family of
lapwings twittering in the trees Sethius and Adriana chatted together about the adventure ahead they hurriedly ate their
breakfast, broke camp and set off on their journey.
4 hours into the journey the wandering pair descended down a mountain path taking in the wonders of the outside world. In
the distance could be seen the legendary town of Britain that they had heard so much about. The couples were on a high
believing that nothing could go wrong. Their imaginations were on overdrive with visions of great victories and mountains of
gold filling each waking thought. Momentarily they stopped to take in the scenery failing to notice 2 pairs of human
bloodthirsty eyes peering at them out through the undergrowth. Carrying on merrily unaware of their peril the 2 adventurers
began singing songs taught to them by the monks. Unsheathing their poisoned daggers the 2 brigands leapt upon their
chosen victim driving their blades deep into the flesh of Sethius. Acting upon impulse Adriana paralysed the nearest crook
with a paralyse scroll. She called upon the fire element and within moments the summoned elemental thundered into
existence, it turned upon the second murderer engulfing him in flames, he cried in agony before falling to the floor dead.
Upon Adriana’s commands the fire elemental swiftly dispatched of the paralysed criminal before blinking out of existence.
While this was going on Sethius was in an uncontrollable spasm on the floor. Realising his plight adriana poured one of her
strong potions into his mouth, a moment later a sparkling aura encircled Sethius glistening in the light. For a moment you
could see the magical solution cleansing his body. He looked up and clambered to his feet groaning. He thanked Adriana
claiming he owed his life to her great skill and quick reactions. Setting off again with more caution the pair travelled through
grassy plains, dark forests and dry deserts encountering many monsters, all of which chose the wrong people to mess
with. Without even reaching the cave the duo had looted enough gold to pay for their equipment 10 times over.
Rounding a bend they saw in front of them the great cave they had been searching for. It had taken them 3 days to get
there but it was all worth it. They stood in awe for a while before Adriana cast night sight spell on them both. They then
anxiously approached the cave entrance breathing in deeply, they set foot inside the darkened cave.
The momentarily took in the murky atmosphere of the dungeon, slowly the vile but might dragon appeared before them
materialising out of the dark…now the quest had truly begun. Adriana hastily began to cast the Flamestrike spell. The
ancient and magical words had barely passed her lips before the foul creature realised its danger. One swipe of its great
tale left a gash in Adriana’s neck. Sethius raced to her side and drew a vile of the healing potion from his bag. He poured
the cool Yellow liquid down his friend’s throat and waited.…nothing, Adriana was dead! Sethius was saddened, suddenly
he was filled with rage and turned on the great beast. He advanced on the creature shouting "this is for Adriana" His expert
mace skills and immense strength allowed him to land crashing blows all over the foul Dragon, nimbly dodging its razor
sharp claws and its scorching breath Sethius managed to fend off the monster until he saw his chance, as if like a reflex
Sethius swung his mace in a circular motion through the air striking the creature right between the eyes. The monster fell
to the floor screaming and writhing. He lifted the mace above his head before dealing the final blow crushing the beast’s
skull. Sethius stood silent watching the giant creatures heart beat its last beat. The monsters thick, treacle like green
blood oozed out of it’s wounds and mouth trickling onto the floor and drop by drop falling into the murky depths of the
stagnant pool of water and blood below. His mind then turned to his life long friend….Adriana. Sethius mundanely drifted
over to and the corpse of what felt like a sister to him. His tears ran down his face and fell off his chin onto Adriana’s blood
soaked robe he sobbed for some time before coming back to his senses, he realised his tears would not bring Adriana
back from the dead his mind snapped back to the quest in hand….the treasure. He scanned the murky cavern finally
finding his prize, a great chest. Flexing his muscles and using the skills he and Adriana had learned making gold at Yew
Crypts he made light work of the lock on the chest. He swung the lid open to the sound of a thousand castle doors opening
at once echoing about the dank cave. The contents glittered and shined mesmerising him for a while. He reached down
and, sadly, ran his hands threw the gold and gems……this would be no compensation for the loss of a great friend. On that
day, on that very spot, Sethius vowed upon his friends lifeless corpse to rid the world of all that is evil.
