Updated Scenario/Vet Rewards Schedule -Videric

An error was made in ( http://www.uo.com/cgi-bin/newstools.pl?Article=6770 )yesterday's Scenario/Vet Rewards schedule. The schedule incorrectly indicated many shards receiving that same publish at the same time as Lake Superior. Listed below is the correct timetable, which has also replaced the incorrect one in ( http://www.uo.com/cgi-bin/newstools.pl?Article=6770 ) yesterday's FYI. We apologize for this error.

    Scenario Week 2 Schedule

    * European Shards (Europa, Drachenfels):
    4:00 am UTC/GMT, Friday, September 27
(11:00 pm CDT, Thursday, September 26)

    Ianstorm UO chat log -Videric

Altough log was informal enough it had one major let down. 3d avatar art is delayed again.

**Drizzt_Sonoma** Here's an early question: "What is the status of the new wearables/avatar art we heard so much about before?"
*Evocare* The wearables/avatars have undergone another round of tweaks, and are nearly complete, we expect to patch them out around the launch of AoS

The log can be read here:

About "It's not a mirror" thingy -Videric

SunSword commented of his past in UO before moving in to SWG. Here is the specific post about the "mirror" (luckily the facets have been lately made more different in looks).

…The "it's not a mirror" post was a mistake on my part and one that I've learned a great deal from. I'm only going to address it this once so we can get it out of the way. I apologize. It was a mistake.

We all make mistakes, and the best we can do is learn from them and avoid making them in the future.

I can only hope that you remember the many good things I was able to accomplish before I departed OSI, such as improving house security (lockdowns) and adding skill locks. During my tenure I was also able to greatly improve the publish process and service quality. "Patch day" lost a great deal of its dreadful reputation because of the process I was able to get in place.

Again, I can only acknowledge the mistake and endeavor to earn your trust. I'm confident that my actions and the performance of the OSI Team will back that up.

There's a lot of great stuff coming up for UO and I look forward to being a part of it.

A Word from SunSword, UO Producer -Videric

SunSword has returned to Origin? This is interesting news indeed after he had been working so long with SWG team, and skipping the team before publish seems strange. I am sure if Lum the Mad was still in rant business we'd had nice speculations about this. Perhaps EA just made better offer, who knows... More interestingly what will this mean for UO?

Well this was unexpected too, I suppose we can expect more of these "premium" services in the future. I do not really have any opinion of this yet, maybe it is just good? Let us see if there is more news to come on this eventful day.

  • New US shard?! -Videric

Expect the unexpected? I did not expect this:

      Announcing Lake Austin Shard

Launched in 1997, Ultima Online stands as the longest-running, most
successful online subscription-based game in the history of the interactive entertainment industry-and we're still growing!

Today, as we approach the 5th birthday of UO, Origin is proud to announce the opening of Lake Austin, our newest North American shard. The Lake Austin shard opens today, Wednesday, September 18th (CDT). It is the 12th North American Ultima Online shard, and is our 25th shard worldwide.

In honor of UO's 5th birthday, the new shard is being named after the
twenty-two mile long body of water in Central Texas that runs right past the place where UO was born in 1997. The home office of Origin Systems, the central location for the creative vision of Ultima Online, overlooks the waters of beautiful Lake Austin from the high cliffs along its banks.

Initially, Lake Austin will be available only to players on new accounts(those created as of Sunday, September 15th, CDT) for a period of one month. This will ensure that players new to UO are given a period to learn the game and establish a solid foundation on the shard before it is opened to all players worldwide. For players interested in opening a new account and joining this shard, we are also featuring a special anniversary promotion, with 50% off the purchase of UO from participating games retailers Electronics Boutique, GameStop and Amazon.com during the period of September 20th - 30th, 2002! After 30 days, Lake Austin will be opened to all Ultima Online players, allowing the shard to develop the diversity and strong camaraderie found on other UO shards.

Please note that the Lake Austin shard will only be visible in the shard list to new accounts for the first 30 days.

It seems Scenarios continue to have technical troubles. This is what was posted in FYI:

Due to an unforeseen issue, the Scenario 5, week 1 Publish that was intended to be live on one shard this morning will be delayed. We are currently working diligently to resolve this issue, and will post additional updates as the situation develops. We apologize for the delay, and thank you for your patience in this matter.

  • New animation files in 3D? UPDATE -Videric

Date does not match of them being introduced with the latest patch, but what are they for? They certainly are not in the game... Will we be able to choose our idling animation?

UPDATE: Tajima had this to say when asked him about them. Busy day for the Traveller, it feels, which is great

    Tajima:

These are dormant content that we might utilize one day.
