Ianstorm UO chat log -Videric

The chat doesnt really have any new information, and has only the community team. Talbot had some good questions that might be worth of checking, even if answer might not always be what hoped.

Few answers are cut short due too long answers on IRC client line (I presume) which makes the chat log annoyance to read at times. Here is short snippet (and yes its missing text due the error in the other end).

*Kehleyr* *Talbot* Why has the burden been placed on individual players and Fan-Sites to preserve the history and IC lore of Ultima Online? One of the strongest forces that can tie a community of players together is a shared sense of history and purpose...yet by thrusting this responsibility into the hands of fansites/players the information is easily forgotten or ignored when new communities develop leading to a fractured hodge-podge
*Kehleyr* of in that have no real concept of the IC history of their shard or of the metastory of the game itself.

*Greywolfe* I don't think that it's so much that the burden has been placed on the individual players and fan sites as it is that the players are the ones that really make the IC part of UO shine. We can write the basic fiction for the game, but the players make it what it really is, filling in the cracks with the role-played events and player towns-all the things that make the game what it is. In truth, we're currently not set up to track the combined, and s
*Greywolfe* We've given some consideration to the concept, don't get us wrong, but the idea of collecting and support that amoutn of information would be a massive undertaking.
*Greywolfe* We'll do what we can, with event calendar presentations, message boards for the community to share, etc., but the history of UO in many ways belongs to the players, and under their control.

    Short Housing Management Downtime -Videric

    From FYI:

Starting at 11:00pm CST (5:00pm GMT/UTC) today our housing server will be unavailable due to maintenance for a period of up to 45 minutes. During this time, players on all shards will not be able to place new houses, be traded houses, set houses as Primary, or collapse existing houses back into deeds. Those houses that are already Condemned through normal means (due to the owner having recently placed or been traded a newer house, or having set a Primary house) will still continue to decay.

We thank you for your patience, and will post an update once these changes are completed.

    State of EU service -Videric

Been doing this and that, and somehow I missed the following statement from Sannio at Stratics:

[...]Talos' work was a wonderful legacy to the European (and American) Interest program, and he certainly did more than simply perform Interest-specific duties. However, there currently is no Interest program in the European region, and when IGM Talos left OSI we did not plan on bringing in a replacement IGM. That doesn't mean we'll leave Europa and Drachenfels players out in the cold, however-we'll continue including the players of both shards in such events as the currently ongoing OSI-sponsored Tournament of Champions.

It's my understanding that Talos also performed a majority of the updates that went into the UO-Europe site, and this relates to why you stopped seeing those updates as frequently and regularly as you once did. Our Web team will be working on improving that situation, although in truth that improvement may not come as immediately as we would like. In the meantime I'd like to refer you to UO.com for your informational needs while we plan the future of the UO-Europe site.

Yes, it's true we have two new shards, Lake Austin in America and Sakura in Japan. We never dismiss the idea of opening other shards in other places, but right now we feel that opening one in Europe is not a viable business option. We'll continue to keep an eye on our European market and reassess the possibility every so often-but, although it certainly could happen in the future, we have no such plans in the works to make it so at this time.[...]

Personally this does not surprise me as the effort to market the game in EU is next to nothing, so potential new people finding it is probably rather low too...

Current Scenario Quests Here to Stay -Videric

The most recent scenario expanded upon the new player quest system to bring all players a number of exciting, story-driven quests. If you were hoping to take part in one of these quests, you're in luck! You can pursue the Collector, Naturalist, Old Hag, Solen Matriarch, or Ambitious Queen quests whenever you get the urge-all of these quests are now a permanent part of UO!

  • Warning: False Beta Test Invitation -Videric

We've gotten word that some Ultima Online players have been receiving bogus e-mails inviting them into an UO: Age of Shadows beta test. Attached to this e-mail is an executable file. Please be warned that this invitation is NOT from us; it is NOT legitimate in any way. Although we will be having a beta test for UO:AoS, please know that it will be a closed beta and that all the invitations have already been sent-no new testers will be requested.

Further, the executable file attached to that e-mail includes a Trojan
virus. We urge all players to be careful when examining the content of their e-mails, regardless of where you believe it came from. Some programs can allow their creators to hack into your computer and access your passwords, credit card information, and private files, or even destroy your precious data and hard drive. The best defense against such intrusions is to not open any files you did not specifically request.
