 | Lock down bug! Lock your front doors! -Videric | |
I read this from the news in stratics, it seems the bug is very real so please take this seriously:
Lock your door people, if you have not already done so, it seems ANY locked down or secure item can be stolen from a building that can be accessed inside.
Apparently large towers are not 100% safe from this exploit even if private*sighs*
I would suggest keeping your valuables in a safe place until we get confirmation that the thing has been fixed.
If person can access the house, lockdowns are not safe. So for all you public house holders,at least remove all valuable from your houses if you want to stay open.

 | City of Ulthuan Grand Opening delayed.... but, Ulthuan Library and Magika will throw opening ceremonies. -Remy LeBeau | |
I recieved this letter from Qurant, Ordermaster of TOU, this afternoon, along with an attachment. - Remy LeBeau
"Dear peoples of Britannia,
I regretfully announce that the opening of Ulthuan City will be delayed for at least 30 days. This has been the result of a dispute between members in this guild, stating we should not let Drow on the land we claimed for Old Ulthuan. We have shown no tolerance for the Drow, and many know my personal feelings towards Mori'Quessir (High Elven for Drow), but they have been granted a reprieve from British saying they have as much right to the land as we do, so thus is our arguement. So for now, the city of Ulthuan will remain under construction. I gaurantee it will not be longer than 30 days. But it light of this news, Lestat V'lorea, our resident head librarian, has sent me a letter, with some goods news.
Qurant Ordermaster of The Order of Ulthuan jmyers@reliable-net.net
And here is the letter he attached from Lestat V'lorea:
"Ladies and Gentlemen,
For recent bad happenings which I am not at liberty to discuss, the opening of the city of Ulthuan, will be shortly stopped. Father Qurant I am sure will release a statement about the situation soon. But as for now, I, Lestat V'lorea, Scholar and Head Librarian of the TOU, am proud to announce Opening Ceremonies for the Ulthuan Library and Magika. Since the godlings are fixing a problem pertaining to bookshelves, libaries will soon be useful again. We here at he L&M have three stories of a wide variety of books, written by many various peoples of Britannia. We will have a opening ceremony where you will find many scholars there to answer your questions, and were are planning for a guest speaker. For now the ceremony will be planned for September 5th, but if the godlings take longer, we will reschedule. For runes to the library, contact the TOU at Qurant's email address, jmyers@reliable-net.net."

Unfortunately I have sad news. Carl Barks, the famous (and in my opinion the best) Donald Duck artist died at the age of 99 earlier this week. To me, his comics remain unmatched by other Duck artists.

I would just like to post this so that everyone knows, OSI actually listened to us and has been working on an update for the lockdown issue. This is now in testing on the Test Center shard. Congratulations everyone, this is a monumental victory for us, the role-playing community. OSI is starting to learn that we will not give up and not be silenced. - Remy LeBeau
Lots of additions to Testing For Next Update: Black Dye Tub Changes Players will no longer be able to dye the true black (solid black) dye tubs to another color.
Lock Down and Secure Changes
Changes to lock downs and secures to account for various situations.
Access to secure containers can now be assigned by the house owner.
When a house owner makes a container secure a window will appear with the following options: Accessible by only owners and co-owners, Accessible by only owners, co-owners and friends. Locking down secure items in houses will change in the following ways:
Only the player that locked down an item or the owner of the house will be able to unlock that particular item. This will not change previously locked down items until they become re-locked down. Items on top of or below other locked down items will be accessible. Players will be able to use dyes on any dye tub, including ones that are locked down. However, black dye tubs will no longer be dyeable under any circumstances. This will affect all previous black dye tubs that exist. Keys on a keyring will not count toward the lock down total in a house. The keys within the keyring will not decay, however the keyring itself will still subject to normal decay situations. Players will be able to use any locked down container, except a secure container. Note that items inside of a container cannot be locked down unless the container itself is also locked down. As stated above, locked down items will only be able to be released by the player that locked the item down, or by the owner of the house. The following items will be useable when locked down:
Runes may be used for recalling. Treasure maps may be viewed by anyone. Rune books will allow recall scrolls to be added by anyone to increase the amount of charges. Visitors to a house will be able to recall to a location from a locked down rune book in that house. Books will be readable by house visitors. Visitors to a house will not be able to scribe text into a locked down purple book. Candelabras and lanterns that are locked down will be operable by the house owner, co-owner, and friends of the house. Musical instruments will be operable. Locked down dyes will be useable on locked down dye tubs (except true black dye tubs which will not be dyeable as described above.) Locked down mugs, glasses, cups, buckets, and tubs will be useable by anyone. Changes to Young players and New characters: "Young" player items will be changed in the following ways:
Ranger armor (green armor) will be removed from the "young" player ticket options In the place of Ranger Armor, "young" players will have the option for a spellbook. This spellbook will contain all of the spells within the first four circles of spellcasting. All newly created character's starting gold will be increased to 1000 gold, from the current 100 gold, regardless of the play age of the account they exist on. Various Changes and Fixes. The following changes and updates will be added to Ultima Online:
Tamers will be able to loot monsters that their pets kill. The same damage looting rules still apply if other players or creatures are involved in the kill. Thieves will have a chance to snoop and remain hidden. This will be based on a check against their hiding skill. At zero hiding skill, a player will be revealed when snooping 100% of the time. At 100 hiding, a player will be revealed 50% of the time when snooping. Human NPC's in Wind will be able to call for guards if witnessing a criminal action or if noticing a murderer. Boats will not be able to become drydocked unless the boat's anchor is down. Posted on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, 6:11 PM EDT by Joshua Rowan (GeneralNews)

 | Black Dagger targets UO's economy, market and detailed studies of merchant -Videric | |
www.blackdagger.com has done many detailed studies for merchants and for people why frequent merchants for their goods. Currently the latest study includes all the known new weapons that have been found throughout the land as of late.
At Black Dagger we strive to bring you total information on all sellable items within the game. We can't say we have everything listed because that would be untrue, but what we don't have can be easily referenced through links to other popular sites. Why do I do this, because I feel I can have the most in-depth, detailed information presented in the most appealing and useful manner. That is my goal for all my guides.
So if you need any of the following you know that www.blackdagger.com is the place you can find detailed and up to date information.

I know this isn't exactly Europa news, but I felt it needed to be said. It was posted today on UO Stratics general news. - Remy
It looks like we've finally discovered what this week's new item is! Thanks to Srikrit Ta Lir for providing this tale: Hail, After reading the BNN article and the hint given on the new item, I decided to give it a try. I went to a place thats cold, as suggested. Outside the ice dungeon I hunted on anything that moved. My first guess was that it would be the snow elementals, but to my surprise I found a very strange staff on a Giant Ice Serpent. The staff is said to be a Glacial staff. It looks like its made of ice. After further investigation (armslore) by my friend Jezamyn we found out that the staff is best used by a mage, and has 2 modes of operation. These modes can be triggered by saying the words "In Corp Del" or "An Ex Del" when holding the staff. You hear mysterious sounds when you change mode.
I did little experimenting with it sofar, but I can describe a few things I found out.
When the staff is used in In Corp Del mode it uses ALL your mana in 1 blast, the blast seems to do damage, but I have no idea how much. It killed a bull in one shot, but did nothing on a heavily damage drake. Besides its scary to lose 100 mana with 1 spell.
The An Ex Del mode, makes the sound of a paralyse and seems to paralyse the target, but only for a very short time.
I guess a lot more research is needed to find out all about this, but I hope this is a good start.

An announcement from Zreto Lusorian Hear ye Citizens of Europa
After 2 weeks of hard work, we are finally able to annouce the opening of the first 2 parts of "Ye North End Tavern & Mall". The first is our rune library. Our "library crew" has travelled to every corner of Britannia, and we now offer runes to all city shops sorted by category, all dungeon levels, and all treasure islands. In addition we have some more interesting places and player run locations. All runes are stored in runebooks, easily used both by mages and users of scrolls.
Our "player establishments & shops" books still have free slots, so should thee be running a town or tavern, or own a vendor to which thee have a rune, please contact me, so I can add thy location.
The second part now open is our Mall. One whole level of our tower is dedicated to vendors. We have vendors selling items of EVERY tradeskill at GM level, plus vendors stocked with magical items, fishing items, semi rares and rares, we hope everything desirable in these lands. All packed into one room, for easy shopping.
Here too, we have some free spots left (after all we have set space for 36 vendors), so if thee have some fine wares to sell and want a (hopefully) much frequented vendor spot, we offer them to thee for free. Just contact me.
The opening of our 3rd part, the tavern, is now scheduled for Thursday, the 24th. We are still hard at work on the finishing touches to make it a place to feel good in. We are also still looking for people interested in working in the tavern once a week for a few hours, as we are still lacking enough people to open on more than 2 or 3 days a week. So if this might interest thee, please just contact me and I will answer any question and thee can see, if this would be something for thee.
"Ye North End Tavern & Mall" can be found...well ye guessed it, at the north end of the world. More precisely we are located just north of the mountains where the Dungeon Wrong lies. If the walk around these mountains, thee will find our tower at the northen tip of them, straight south from the Entrance to the Ice Dungeon. The exact coordinates are 128 N 45 E. We hope to see thee all there in the comming days.
With regards Zreto Lusorian ICQ: 11934600

 | New creatures roam the lands -Melissa | |
New, terrible beasts have risen from the depths of the earth. Yesterday there were confirmed sightings of several kinds of elementals, including shadow, copper, gold, verite and valorite elementals.
These powerful creatures seem to be originating from the areas which miners frequent, such as the mining caves north of Britain. Eyewitnesses report that the most powerful of these creatures, the valorite elemental, is capable of using magic and slaying warriors with only a few blows from its mighty metal fist. Perhaps the land itself is rebelling against the strip-mining populace and is using these elementals as guardians against the evil folk who would rob the mountains of their riches?
So if you are thinking about mining some of that precious ore, I would recommend taking either a valiant friend or at least a sturdy sword along, since you can never be sure if that golden gleam you see in that dark cave is really a gold vein...
Update: The Britannia News Network has a story concering the elementals. |

Hear Ye, Hear Ye…
I would like to invite all to the opening of the Trade Caravan Fortress of Cove at the Trammel Facet. The most interesting question asked at the last nights chat was in my opinion this. Pity I could not get a change to ask about bookcases specially. On the bright side it seems the team is aware of at least some of the lock-down problems.
Read it yourself:
<Jerrith> *C_Casey_Atl* Now that the lockdown changes have went in, are there any plans to allow changeing of an item's z-axis to help center it on tables, etc?
Also, are the rules against lockdowns on/near indoor stairs/ladders/doors really necessary? It doesn't keep people from blocking walkways.
<Sage> Yes. We are looking at ways to help all home decorators. The lockdown changes were done to prevent several exploits. However, it was determined that the changes were not adequate.
I am not satisfied with them, and we are currently rewriting the system to make it more sound, and better for players.
The rest of the chat can be soon read at Stratics, where it will probably be posted later today. |

 | Origin hires Great Bob from "Lum the Mad" and UO-Europa -Videric | |
Ho have I managed to get these two things under one topic? Read on and find out. *grins*
Great Bob is a known ranter/reporter at Lum the Mad website. Congratulations to Great Bob for a new job at Origin/EA.
The latest addition to Ultima Development community seems to support the idea that they are indeed continuing to hire active Ultima fans (in this case ranter?) to the company. Previously on this year, two people from the Battle Vortex Audio show were hired to work on Origin as well. Probably because their devotion to PvP combat.
So they have hired two PvP experts, and Bob from the community websites. But they are obviously missing one type that needs to be hired as well, where is the roleplayer expert? There is plenty to look for from Europian community I would say...*grins*
I for one would be interested to see UO-europa to grow, and concentrate on Europian shards seperately. Europian community is it's own community and not just part of American one, even the time zone difference is great.
Great first step would be to make uo-europa.com more active, and even daily updated. Fansite links which Tales of a Traveller is featured is great first step (not just because they choose to show link to here, but because it lets people find Europian communities more easily). But how about some articles and maybe even player stories and news like on official UO.com. It might be interesting...
So what was the point of all this? Online Companies should concentrate more on Europa side as well, there is "a few" people playing games at this side of "the lake" too.
Tomf would probably have more to say on this subject, but he is currently unavailable (no, he has not been hired by a gaming company). *grins*
