February 26, Monday |
I got this in mail from Cordicat, so if you do not have UO 3rd dawn Cd, well this is your chance.
Lords and Ladies,
It is a Monday. Mondays so rarely bring exciting news - a fact which I'm determined to take a good sharp broadsword to.
So, with no messing about - I'd like to direct you all to www.uo-europe.com and our Win A Beta CD Competition. We have 50 to give away in a raffle type arrangement. In fact, all things considered, competition isn't quite the word. Giveaway! No less.
If you don't have a beta cd, or know someone who doesn't, or would quite like another one - enter and give it a whirl!
See you there,

 | Petition to put Necromancy back on the development board! -Remy | |
This is great news indeed! As we Europa players know very well, our server has been slow especially at the evenings on Trammel and Dungeon server has been slower than a snail at times too.
European hardware upgrades are in the works right now. We're turnin' on the new machines just as fast as we can get them out the door. :) The machines have to be sent to Origin in Austin, Texas to be prepared and from there, they are sent out to the site and installed.

I found this on Update Center:
House Auto-refresh Update Feb 16 2001 2:01PM CST (GMT -06:00)
Currently, the houses on Lake Superior, Drachenfels, and Europa are being refreshed automatically. On February 21st (local server time) we are planning on turning off the auto-refresh system. Right before the system is deactivated, all houses will be refreshed one last time and all condemned houses will be uncondemed. Once the system is deactivated, all houses will need to be refreshed at regular intervals (approximately at least once every 9 days) to avoid decay.
So watch out people, time to keep refreshing thouse houses again. |

Origins has started to ban (or give final warning) people who have used the purple item bug and people who just has them in general. Origin recommends that you get rid of your purple items incase you still have some.
So teaching in this: do not cheat people! |
 | Two different Ultimas in production? Too confusing... -Videric | |
At least for GameSpot UK. Have a look at their screenshot page of their preview, and we are supposed to listen these guys to guide us what game to buy?

 | Future of volunteers in Online games -Videric | |
Although we cover mainly only Ultima, I think Asheron's Call happenings are something to think about.
Yesterday AC fired all it's voluteer staff and replaced them with eight paid workers (which is more than 10 times less they had as volunteers according to other news sites).
http://ac.stratics.com/ http://ac.xrgaming.net/
I do no not know how this affects AC as I have only played it during the beta, and have not touched the game since (maybe Melissa can bring another view to that). But think of an hypotetical "What if Origin was forced to fire all volunteers" scenario, just imagine UO without Companions, Counselors, Seer and Elder.
I think you can say without hesitation that UO would suffer greatly if ingame support/quests handled by hundreds of volunteers was changed to be work of few payed workers. It would be quite a rough ride, but in this game future is much in the laywers' hands. It is also interesting to think would changes affect all the shards or just American ones?
Sometimes reality is stranger than fantasy, I guess. |
Here is a website that might help you to create your character's name. The site is based to D&D (as it is on Wizards homepage) so the style of the name might not always be in your liking, but it is worth of try as it still gives good ideas.

 | UO3D keeps getting better... -Videric | |
UO3D Patch 40 really added some new eye candy again, like the Zoom feature, adding of sitting animation (which needs some adjusting still however) and fixing and adding wearables.
As we have not yet even reached Beta, I think we can be very hopeful that UO3d will be very nice when Finished, specially to role-players with all of emotes and enchantments it offers. |

 | Don't rug me in the wrong way -Melissa | |
I ran across this happy fellow in the Skara Brae tailor's shop on the Alpha Test Shard. I couldn't get a good view of his selections since he refused to listen to me, but I think I have a fairly good idea of what he has in store. More on this later when I get him to listen.

[Update: managed to get the fellow's attention by shouting in his ear. See a sample of his wares by peeking here, here and here. Note that the prices he asks are a bit hefty, so better start saving now!] |
