 | Your eye on the uo.com boards -Melissa | |
You remember the UO World Faire that was held a couple of weeks ago, right? Well, in the Faire there were numerous "dev sessions" in which players and OSI personnel discussed about various things related to UO, such as player communities, quests, murderers and stuff like that.
The notes made by the OSI people during these sessions have now been posted on the uo.com boards, here.
Also, a new forum was opened on the boards, titled In Concept. In this forum you can comment on the things which are currently "In concept" (was that a surprise or what?), like the Stat Alteration proposal.
Hop straight into the Altering Derived Stats thread. Long, boring and full of stupid comments. |

 | Markee Dragon: more UO3D pics -Videric | |
From Markee Dragon:
We just posted over 100 UO3D screenshots in our UO Screenshots site. We have dared to show all we can. OSI asked us to black out some sections and we have. But we still dare to show you castles, dungeons, new monsters, new spell visual effects, rares and lots of blood! All of it from the new lands that will be opening soon when UO3D is published. Actually we did much more then just publish a few new pictures. Our entire screenshots site is now run from a database. No longer do you have to wait for a month or more for us to get in gear and update the site. It's now live! But wait there's more! (Hopes not to sound like a Ginsu commercial) You now have the ability to upload your favorite screenshots right from your browser. No FTP or email needed. Just click the link to add a screenshot and it walks you right through it. We are very pleased with how the new site is turning out.
So come to the site. See the UO3D screenshots and submit your favorite screenshots. Do it now because we have validators standing by! www.markeedragon.com/uoscreen/
Brought to you by the team that slices and dices at MarkeeDragon.com :)

 | Oh, look! It's UO: 3rd Dawn! -Melissa | |
UO House of Commons has posted the log of the UO:3rd Dawn UOHOC chat which took place last Thursday.
The log, including lots of interesting and not-so-interesting stuff, is here. |
Here is some posts about the time in Britannia, commented by lead IGM Eidolon. He gave good facts about Britannian time and are good clarifaction. Although no one knows why holidays and most of the event timing does not follow in-game time (probably because it is fast that it is impossible to follow). I myself am not a big fun of so fast time.
The boards.uo.com post: http://boards.uo.com/cgi-bin/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=role&Number=225508&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5
And being like almost real journalist, here is more confusion from Stratics:
http://uo.stratics.com/secrets/history.shtml
Which is their findings about holidays and such in Britannia.
As conclusion everyone should roleplay thir own style, as the character might age a bit fast for your taste. But I do know people who like to follow it as well... so this is one of those things that are just "interesting". *grins*
Hey, if you have something to say, why not drop a word on the board? I could even install new board if people were a bit willing to discuss about different roleplaying issues *smiles*
I promise to comment the board *smiles* |

From last article about Blessing:
1.2 Blessings and Items are a difficult thing. Again this is something that should be in the hands of the players not the Interest team. I would like nothing more than to be able to recognize every single player town or player that contributes a lot to the game. There is no real good way to set up anything other than arbitrary rules as to what qualifies someone for a blessing. Nor is there a real good way to make sure everyone gets seen. In the end it also turns into a battle of some who do not get blessed arguing “Favoritism”. It can get very messy. This is yet another thing that should be in the hands of the players to decide.
Sounds all fine to me, but he just failed to mention when or if this "giving this to players to decide" going to be implanted. I would like to see something actually done at this field rather than repeating "Player towns are Very Improtant".
We do have excellent Quests run by seers, which are great (specially at Europa, I cannot speak for other shards), but many towns would like to have (and do deserve) official recognation. I think after Factions, enchanting player towns someway should be a next big project... A lot more furniture if nothing else, so we do not have dream of these blessings so much (to make our towns more alive looking).
I also heard talks of Town Stone at from the Faire. So we will see what future holds, I just hope future is soon rather than far away. |
 | Markee Dragon: An inside look at Origin -Videric | |
Have you ever wanted to see what OSI HQ looked like? Did you know they have their own employee store? Have you ever wondered what the artwork on the wall looked like? ( Here's a clue: It's awesome!)
We will take you for a photographic tour inside the headquarters of the place we hear from so often but know so little about.
So if you want to see GMs working the queue from the Star Chamber you won't want to miss this. www.markeedragon.com/uofaire Look for the link "A Look Inside OSI"
Enjoy the tour. Markee Dragon www.MarkeeDragon.com |
 | Markee Dragon: UO Faire Pictures Database is up -Videric | |
The UO Faire was a huge success and the Markee Dragon team is pleased to have been a part of it. We have created a site dedicated to the people who attended and ran the faire. Currently there are over 250 pictures available at the site. Many celebrities can be found at the site. Some of the people you will find are many of the developers, GMs, Volunteer and people who run fan sites such as Lum the Mad, Several members of Stratics, Jinx from The Chosen, Fear from Battle Vortex and several more people including our team from Markee Dragon.
We developed the database so that if you attended the faire and have pictures to share you can upload them to the site right through your web browser.
Find the site located at www.markeedragon.com/uofaire/ We look forward to seeing you there.

 | And Now For Something Completely Different... -Melissa | |
...UO: 3rd Dawn.
A new board has been opened on the uo.com boards, surprisingly named Ultima Online: Third Dawn.
Especially one post caught my eye today and that was Tyrant's reply to a question about the difficulty level of the new lands.
OSI_Tyrant (VP of Online Services) 11/12/00 01:39 PM Re: The New Lands -- difficulty level?
The level will vary some, but the goal is to encourage adventuring in parties (meaning pretty darned difficult).

Sounds good, yes? |

Yours truly fished this little snippet of information from the uo.com boards:
OSI_Tyrant (VP of Online Services) 11/10/00 10:45 PM Re: what are the odds of getting into the beta
Faire attendees will be mailed the alpha for free (version at the Faire is pre-alpha) in 3-4 weeks. All UO customers will be able to get a beta CD for shipping and handling charge ($4.95 domestic, overseas is not set yet). Beta CD will be patchable to the final so it's the only thing you have to buy. It will be first come, first serve and we don't expect to open orders and start shipping beta CD's until late December / Early January.

[Note: We posted this before Stratics. Ha ha.] It's worth scavenging the net for every little piece of 3rd Dawn information there is. Expect to see and hear nothing else than 3rd Dawn news until April 2001.
This link leads to the thread from where the above message was found. Believe me when I say that the rest of the thread consists of nothing else than pointless whinings of "Why can't I be in the beta?". Read at your own risk.
Addition: Origin has opened a 3rd Dawn website that has, among other things, screenshots and a FAQ.
Stay tuned for more 3rd Dawn news. |
 | Guess what? Even more 3rd Dawn stuff! -Melissa | |
Stratics has some really nice looking 3rd Dawn pics. In fact, when compared to the first pics that were on CDMag.com, these screenshots look like they come from a real game, not just some alpha engine.
And the player avatar and paperdoll look very, very, very nice indeed. Disregarding the fact that the leather armour is straight from U:IX. Perhaps we get blackrock armour (or Wyrmguard armour even) with the new expansion if the dev team doesn't like drawing new textures? :)

November 10, Friday |
This piece of information shamelessly stolen from Stratics (hey, I know you'd rather read Traveller than Stratics):
10:03am CST Update: OSI has just announced that the beta for Third Dawn is set for January 2001. Third Dawn is currently in an alpha state(which makes the screenshots look even better). They have no official release date set as yet. They did mention that the upgrade will not be free, AND will have new adventure lands (much like T2A).
|
Today we will know more of the future of Ultima Online. I will fill in reports if I get them during the meeting, but mostlikely I will only get detailed information after the faire.
I suggest you follow such sites as UO Stratics and Lum (both can be found at link section if you do not know the URL) which both promise live coverage. |
November 9, Thursday |
| 1 day left to the faire, and still no next president for the country hosting it either. It seems America is master suspension. |
November 8, Wednesday |
| 2 days left to the begining of the faire. It still however remines mystery who will the next president of the country hosting the event (at the time of writing). |
November 7, Tuesday |
Big day in the states today with Gora vs Bush President campaing. But true Ultima fans will be excited about the coming UO Faire begining the 10th of this month!
3 days to go...
Hopefully the Traveller can bring some coverage about the event. |
